EMERGENCY CENTER

At Carolinas Medical Center-Union, specially trained Emergency Department physicians and nurses provide modern urgent and emergency care 24 hours a day. The expanded Emergency Department serves more than 3,000 patients a month, providing treatment for both minor and major emergencies.

The Emergency Department is equipped with trauma rooms and treatment rooms used exclusively for cardiac, obstetric, pediatric, ophthalmic and orthopaedic emergencies. Many of our physicians and nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, trauma nursing, emergency nurse pediatrics and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

Trauma care is available at CMC-Union and is supported by MedCenter Air, Union EMS transport and other resources of Carolinas HealthCare System.

Union Emergency Medical Service

In October 2000, a new Union Emergency Medical Service (UEMS) headquarters building opened on the CMC-Union campus. The 6,705-square-foot facility includes administrative offices; operations and control centers; training and education rooms; kitchen facilities; sleeping quarters and rest room facilities for 24-hour personnel; heated garage space for five ambulances or emergency vehicles; and storage space for equipment. A separate shelter for three off-line ambulances or emergency vehicles is located adjacent to the new building.

UEMS currently operates 10 emergency vehicles - eight ambulances and two Quick Response Vehicles. The vehicles operate out of nine Union County locations, including URMC. In addition to answering 911 calls for ambulance service, UEMS also provides medically necessary, non-emergency service for Union County.
