Behavioral Health Center First Step
Behavioral Health Center (BHC) First Step is located on the campus of CMC-Union in Monroe, N.C. Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and licensed by the State of North Carolina, we specialize in chemical dependency treatment programs for adults 18 and older. We are the only full-service treatment facility within the tri-county area and are part of the Behavioral Health Centers of Carolinas HealthCare System.

Inquiries, admissions and confidential telephone consultations are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the clinician-staffed Behavioral Health Call Center or by calling the facility directly. Referrals may be made by self, family members, physicians, friends, employee assistance programs, employers, mental health professionals, managed care representatives, clergy, judicial/legal agencies, and other caring individuals.

Treatment Options
BHC First Step provides the following treatment options:

• Detoxification/rehabilitation - Our medically supervised detoxification is offered in an inpatient setting. Patients admitted to this level of care will receive a comprehensive medical evaluation and follow a prescribed detoxification regimen. Residential treatment combines medical and other clinical approaches in a safe and regulated setting.
• Partial Hospitalization (Day Treatment) - This program serves medically stable patients who need intensive, goal-focused, and ongoing treatment but do not meet specific criteria for inpatient hospitalization or traditional outpatient services.
• Intensive Outpatient Program - Characterized primarily by a group therapy approach with a core focus on relapse prevention, this level of care is for medically stable adults who have an adequate support system.
• Other Outpatient Programs - provides outpatient services which are highly personalized to meet specific patient needs, may employ group or individual approaches or both.
• Continuing Care - This treatment option is available as part of each patient's ongoing aftercare treatment.
• Outpatient Residential - Provided on a "fee for service" basis, this service allows a patient to receive room and board at the facility while participating in the Partial Hospitalization or Intensive Outpatient Programs.
• Family Program-BHC First Step offers a comprehensive treatment approach for family members and significant others. This program meets every Saturday for four hours. A special children's program is included on a monthly basis.

Our Facility
In late 2000, BHC First Step relocated into a new, 8,800-square-foot, state-of-the art facility. It consists of 10 double-patient rooms, four group meeting rooms, a patient day room/eating area, a patient kitchen, and indoor and outdoor recreation areas. The relocation was part of a $47 million CMC-Union expansion and renovation project.
