FACULTY

James Wetter, MD, joined the faculty as Program Director in August 2001. He was born, raised and educated in Buffalo, New York. He attended S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo, completing college, medical school and residency at this institution. He practiced medicine briefly in Vancouver, Washington with Kaiser Permanente. From 1978-2001, he served as faculty member at the Duke/Southern Regional Area Health Education Center's Family Practice Residency Program in Fayetteville, NC. While there, Dr. Wetter acted as the long-term director of the program's Family Medicine Center and served as acting director of the residency program for several periods. His professional interests include health screening and smoking cessation. He and his wife, Deborah, have four grown children: Kevin, Courtney, Melissa and Shannon. Dr. Wetter enjoys gardening, tennis and is an avid Red Sox and Buffalo Bills fan.

Karen Bartley, MD., joined the faculty as Assistant Director in May of 2004. She graduated from the University Of South Alabama College Of Medicine in Mobile, Alabama in 1995. She completed her residency at East Tennessee State University at the Bristol Program. Before joining the faculty she was in private practice in Greenville, Tennessee and Fairview, North Carolina. Dr. Bartley has taken responsibility for coordinating obstetrical care for the resident's obstetrics clinic. Her special medical interests include healthy lifestyles, alternative medicine and growing families.

Donnie Nuzum, Pharm.D. Dr. Nuzum received his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas at Arlington and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He completed his clinical pharmacy residencies in General Pharmacy Practice and Primary Care/Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital and Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO. After completing his residency training, Dr. Nuzum accepted a faculty position at the newly established Wingate University School of Pharmacy in nearby Wingate, NC. Dr. Nuzum joined Union Family Practice in 2005 in order to continue working with family medicine residents while providing an experiential training site for third and fourth year pharmacy students. Professional interests include patient education and management of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and dyslipidemia. Dr. Nuzum and his wife (Tonya) have a son (Joshua) and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi (Bandit). View

Angie Veverka, Pharm. D. Dr. Veverka holds a faculty position at the newly established Wingate University of Pharmacy in nearby Wingate, NC. In 2005 she began providing in-hospital educational training for the residents as well as third and fourth year pharmacy students.
